Job Title: Senior Biomedical Scientist (Training Officer) – Histology

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Biomedical Scientist (Training Officer) to join our established Histopathology team. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory, delivering high-quality histopathology services, and leading the development of future histology professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise:
- Process, section, stain, and dispatch tissue specimens to the highest standards and within agreed turnaround times.
- Contribute to maintaining the quality and accuracy of laboratory output through active participation in workload management and quality control activities.
- Possess extensive knowledge of histological techniques and demonstrate proficiency in specialized cut-up/specimen dissection procedures.
- Training and Leadership:
- Lead the department’s training and development program, overseeing IBMS portfolios and conducting staff competency assessments.
- Organize work, delegate tasks, and supervise MLA’s, MTO’s, and BMS’, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
- Mentor and guide colleagues, contributing to their professional growth and skill development.
- Compliance and Professional Development:
- Ensure strict adherence to Health & Safety regulations and safe laboratory practices.
- Actively participate in the annual staff appraisal process.
- Maintain commitment to ongoing professional development through relevant training courses.
- Utilize laboratory IT systems effectively and contribute to their optimization.
Qualifications:
- HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with membership in the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
- 4+ years of post-registration experience in a histology laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated experience in training and development, ideally within a laboratory environment.
- Extensive knowledge of histological techniques and quality control procedures.
- Experience with laboratory-based IT systems.
- Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
