Role Overview
IMC group are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and passionate Lead Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our team and lead our SEN SLT services within a school environment. This role is central to supporting and enhancing communication for children with special educational needs (SEN) through specialized assessment, intervention, and collaboration with school staff and families. As the Lead SLT, you will oversee therapy provision, ensure high standards of care, and work to foster an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse communication needs of our students.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership:
Lead and manage the school’s SEN SLT team, providing clinical supervision, mentorship, and professional development.
Set up and oversee individualized communication and therapy plans, ensuring they meet students’ specific needs and the school’s SEN objectives.
Conduct complex assessments and design tailored intervention strategies for students with a range of communication challenges, including ASD, ADHD, speech disorders, and social communication needs.
Direct Therapy and Interventions:
Deliver specialized, evidence-based speech and language therapy services in both 1:1 and group settings.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, SEN coordinators, and teaching assistants to integrate therapy goals into classroom activities.
Utilize and recommend augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools and techniques where appropriate.
Staff Training and Development:
Provide training and workshops for teachers, support staff, and parents to promote effective communication strategies and support for students.
Develop resources and guidance materials to empower school staff in supporting students’ communication needs in day-to-day activities.
Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration:
Act as the primary SLT representative in multi-disciplinary meetings, including EHCP reviews, working closely with SENCOs, psychologists, occupational therapists, and other professionals.
Collaborate with external agencies as necessary, ensuring cohesive, coordinated support for students.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
Regularly assess and document students’ progress, adapting therapy plans based on outcomes.
Oversee data collection and outcome reporting for the SLT program, contributing to school reports and communicating effectively with families about their child’s progress.
Ensure that all therapy work is compliant with relevant statutory requirements and best practices in SEN provision.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
Registration: Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working with children with SEN, preferably within a school or similar educational setting.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in clinical supervision, team management, or project leadership within SEN or related settings.

Strong clinical skills in speech and language therapy, particularly in SEN.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire staff, students, and families.
Empathy, patience, and resilience in working with students with complex needs.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, able to balance clinical work with leadership duties.
Desirable Skills
Training in specialized communication techniques (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
Experience with AAC tools and technology.
Previous experience in a lead or senior role within an SEN-focused setting.
